Noble Energy established a significant presence in the oil-rich Permian Basin of West Texas in 2015 with the merger of Rosetta Resources Inc. into a subsidiary of Noble Energy. We further expanded this position with the acquisition of Clayton Williams Energy, Inc. (CWEI) on April 25, 2017. These transactions strengthen our onshore portfolio and increase our exposure to the high-margin liquids production. We now hold the second largest position in the Southern Delaware Basin.
Our current activity is focused in the heart of the Delaware Basin primarily in Reeves County, where multiple layers of oil-rich shale and sands lie stacked one above another. We apply our expertise to optimize the field, reduce our footprint by drilling long lateral wells and increase the efficiency of our operations. With the close of the CWEI acquisition, we doubled our Delaware Basin net unrisked resources to 2 billion barrels of oil equivalent and hold a combined 118,000 net acres. We currently have five rigs running on the combined acreage.
The CWEI acquisition also brought more than 300 miles of oil, natural gas and produced water gathering pipelines which present operational and financial benefits since the majority of acreage was previously undedicated to third parties for midstream services.
